>Heh, you could say that I guess.

>That’s… that’s good to know.

>Thank you for putting up with my questions, even if I can’t answer yours.

>You’ll be safe, that much I can assure.

>You’re welcome. Don’t worry about being unable to answer mine, I don’t mind at all. I ‘put up’ with you because I care about you, even if you can’t remember.

>It’s perfectly fine, don’t worry about it.

>I’m fairly sure that a Stardroid attacked you for some reason. I remember when you messaged me about it, you seemed so frightened…

>A Stardroid? How could I have gotten in trouble with one of them? What was I doing? Am I still in danger?

>Goodness, is this what it’s like for humans who party too much?

>It happens sometimes. From what I had seen, you had somehow gotten stuck in their affairs. When that happened, you must have kept meddling with them until they did what they did. Happened to me before, and I didn’t do anything. But no, I think you’re fine now.

>Well, I left because you sort of asked me to. So I did the only logical thing and left. Though, I feel like my parting happened sooner than I would have preferred. No matter, I just didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.

>R-right. Sorry about that.

>Listen, um, Ground won’t tell me, which only makes me more worried… do you know what happened to me? You left before I could ask, and it’s been killing me.

>It’s perfectly fine, don’t worry about it.

»Understood. I just wanted to make sure you were all right, I did leave rather abruptly after all…

>There’s nothing physically wrong with me… I mean, the repair bots did their job. Armor’s still being worked on, but I don’t plan on using that again ever, so it’s no real loss to me.

>Why did you leave so suddenly?

>Good, good.

>Well, I left because you sort of asked me to. So I did the only logical thing and left. Though, I feel like my parting happened sooner than I would have preferred. No matter, I just didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.

Is everything alright, Plug?

Certainly. Everything is just fine, just a few inconveniences, but nothing that can’t be sorted out. At lease I hope.

Don't listen to that mean person. Here, have Spark Man to keep you company. *causally leaves Spark Man here*

If only. Spark would be good company right about now.

seriously come on, watching you cry all over the dash is primetime entertainment

Heh, it might be. Except for the fact I’m not. Mildly upset; yes. Crying; not so much.

so how does it feel to get abandoned again

” Okay, alright. I’ll give you some space. ” He said with a look of sullen disappointment.

He didn’t even attempt to push the subject further. Dynamo had a lot to consider, so it was probably for the best. Plug backed away and stepped out of the room, closing the door and leaving Dynamo alone.

Granted, he wasn’t going to leave the premise just yet. A few moments of later, the door cracked ajar once more. Through the small space, someone slipped in a set of clothes for Dynamo, and then the door closed momentarily once they were set on the gleaming floor.

Dynamo stayed still for a moment, then hesitantly set his weight on his feet and crossed the room. He still hurt a little. Possibly just remembered pain rather than any real damage. Possibly his circuits were just crossed. It certainly felt that way. He got dressed in silence, save for the whirring of his servos and the sounds of the repair drones still working on his armor.

He waited a long moment by the door.

He wanted to open it. Dynamo’s whole body itched for it, deep in the bones where he couldn’t scratch. That itself scared him. He wasn’t even sure if Plug was waiting or not — I mean, why should he? Dynamo was clearly a broken-down wreck of whatever kind of person he was before, right?

Dynamo rested his head against the door, not opening it, and took another long moment to speak.

“Look, I don’t know if you’re still there, but…” His voice was quiet. He felt stupid. “I must be some crosswired wreck or something. I can’t remember you, I really can’t, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I’m just — I’m kind of a mess right now, alright? I’m not sure I can handle being… being around you for a while.”

He had been waiting outside, not wanting to leave the one he cared about behind. As much as he didn’t want to leave, at this point he had no choice.

” You can’t remember because something happened to you, it’s not your fault really, so don’t feel bad, ” came a meek response, ” I know how you feel, I was in your position once or twice before. If you want me to leave, then I shall oblige; you feel overwhelmed, and you have a lot to think about, without a doubt. “

A few moments passed before the voice came again.

” If you still feel confused, perhaps one of your former colleagues can be of assistance. ” he suggested.

Then there came the sound of lonesome footsteps trudging upon the pristine floor, their noise dissipating into nothingness, leaving nothing but a deafening silence in their wake.

Plug kept his distance from Dynamo, not wanting to make his any more uncomfortable. He even looked up at the ceiling, at the furthest corner of the room so it didn’t seem like he was staring.

” Fifth of May, 200X. ” He paused for a moment before giving a little wave, ” Name’s Plug Man by the way; Ninth Generation Robot Master. Rebelled against humanity one time, got killed for it much like you did. I’ve told you my dull life-story one time before, not like you remember it, but I still won’t bore you again with the details. “

This was going to be harder than he might have previously estimated. But he would be lying if he had said that he didn’t expect this to happen. If only he could somehow convince Dynamo that they knew each other…

Dynamo stared at him.

All of his clocks said years before that.

The generator bot quietly updated his internal date, reminding himself to reset the time later/ His hands shook a little.

You had to look at this from his point of view.

At this point in Dynamo’s life, he couldn’t have concieved of ever being in a relationship with anyone — yet here Plug was, claiming the very same, with enough time since his last reset for it to be plausible, but Dynamo had no memory of this, no memory of even pursuing anything of the type. What else could he have lost? He was frightened. Frightened of what could have caused him to crash so hard to lose everything. Frightened of the incomplete memory he retained of Plug.

Just. Frightened.

“O-okay, okay,” Dynamo put out both his hands, visibly shaking still. “I. I. I n-need some space. Get out. Please, just get out. I’m sorry, I don’t know what’s going on, and I don’t know you. Please.”

Plug still remained standing in that one spot away from Dynamo, refraining from moving a single inch in any direction. He didn’t want Dynamo to assume that he had malicious ideas, perhaps if he could prove to him that they knew each other…

” You should trust me, because you did once before. ” His voice was still soft, ” Listen, your name is Dynamo man, that is common knowledge, yes. Now, from what you’ve told me, you use to work at a power plant, yes? You use to be a tour guide, and you worked with children visiting on school trips. You liked to give hugs because you were programmed to, however you were given a faulty generator as a result of King. Because of that, you can’t touch anything without administering an electric shock, and you can’t repair yourself because you don’t know how.

” You also have a rated-G filter, so you never swear. I know that because you told me. And to make you feel better I decided to download my own PG-13 filter recently. I was going to tell you, but this happened. “

He shifts a little in the spot he was standing, trying to think of something else to say to him.

” Also why would I drag your busted body up a mountain to get repaired if I wanted to hurt you? Answer; I don’t want to harm you  because I care about you. You might not remember, but I do. Knock me out and hack into my memory files if that’ll make you happy. “

The more Dynamo heard of this, the more he felt… Uncomfortable. Jittery. Unsettled. Like there was a memory just at the edge of his reach and he couldn’t quite grasp it — it was awful. He shied away from him on the table, and by now, the arms let him be, crossing his arms over his body protectively.

He didn’t know what to think. He didn’t. He could have learned that from anywhere — hell, he could have searched it from Dynamo’s own memory banks. Maybe he was just lucky, who could know?

Dynamo rubbed his temples, biting his lower lip in distress. “Okay, okay, just — just tell me what the date is. As far as I know, I just woke up from a nap.”

Plug kept his distance from Dynamo, not wanting to make his any more uncomfortable. He even looked up at the ceiling, at the furthest corner of the room so it didn’t seem like he was staring.

He hadn’t moved a single inch for hours as he awaited for Dynamo to come back online, for a moment he swore one of his joints was locking up. Yet, even when Dynamo awoke, he didn’t immediately move over to the other bot; something did’t feel entirely right, and he was correct in his assumption.

” No, I am not a King number, however you shouldn’t be afraid of me. I’m a Light number, and I have no intention of harming you, ” Plug spoke softly with utmost honesty, a situation such as this needed to be handled with care, ” You were critically injured, and I brought you to back to King’s palace so that you would be repaired. “

Plug lifts his hands and keeps them close to his person, showing his palms to the recovering bot so that he could slowly regain Dynamo’s trust.

” You don’t know who I am, but I know you. I only ask that you trust me. ” Plug didn’t even try to mask the tinge of pleading in his voice.

Dynamo tensed up almost immediately, fighting to get his arm away from the repair drone so he could get away, get some stupid clothes on. The last robot who had just asked him to trust him out of the blue had gotten him killed.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Dynamo drew his legs up from where he was still on the slab, defensive, if still mostly immobile and defenseless. He hated that. “How do I know that’s true? For all I know, you could have been the one to do this to me, right? Why should I trust a Light number?”

He wanted Plug out, and he wanted him out now, but some part of him couldn’t let him just yell at him to leave. Something hurt in his torso when he looked at him, but  that could have just been everything else that hurt in his torso reacting to the fear he felt with his presence.

Plug still remained standing in that one spot away from Dynamo, refraining from moving a single inch in any direction. He didn’t want Dynamo to assume that he had malicious ideas, perhaps if he could prove to him that they knew each other…

Dynamo was laying on that table a long time. The automated systems worked quickly, but slower than something sentient might, and the damage the generator bot had suffered was serious indeed. It took over an hour for his armor to be repaired enough for Dynamo to be ejected from it safely, and he still looked like a mess — body bent and crumpled in places, missing an arm. Synthskin melted. Wiring tangled and exposed where his body hadn’t been able to reorganize itself right.

It took hours after that to reverse the damage to his armor and to his body, straightening out the dents, constructing a replacement arm, stretching synthskin thin over places where it had been melted or torn or removed. And all the while he was hooked up to the Citadel’s mainframe, replacing what data had been corrupted or lost when he’d crashed.

But it wouldn’t be enough.

Dynamo awoke before he was completely repaired, really, but he was fixed enough to come online and start running diagnostics. His fans hummed for several minutes before he slowly booted back up, apparently startled to realize he wasn’t alone.

“H-hey, what’s the big deal?” Dynamo demanded, trying to make a move to cover himself. The automated repair system didn’t let him get far. His voicebox was still fritzing a bit, recalibrating itself back to its usual tone. His eyes were slightly fearful, distrusting.

“Y-y-you don’t look like one of King’s. What happened?”

All the King’s Men

It wasn’t much of a mystery to know where the short confrontation had taken place, even long before those coordinates were sent to his via an automated message, he knew exactly where he’d find his broken companion.

After searching the glittering halls, he found signs of where a struggle had taken place, the glint of broken glass made his metaphorical heart sink. There was only one way Dynamo could go from the looks of the shattered window, and that direction was down. Far, far down.

It took some time to reach the bottom of the drop-off where Dynamo had fallen, and soon enough, Plug began seeing remnants of green armour-pieces. Pieces that most likely broke off during the immense fall. He followed the little bits of glass and metal as though they were bread crumbs, and soon enough he found what he had been looking for.

Plug crouched silently beside Dynamo, resting one of his hands atop his broken form. He couldn’t feel the familiar sensation of electrical discharge that had always flowed freely throughout his companion’s damaged body. For a while he just stayed there, looking back towards the palace, and thanking his lucky stars that Dynamo was almost completely in one piece. In all honesty, he had been expecting to discover Dynamo in far worse condition.

The trek back up to the palace was long and dreadful. There was no one else there who was looking for him, so doubtless he was alone in his rescue efforts. He carried Dynamo back where he had come from in the same manner that he had left; in silent despondency.

There had to be some way of putting Dynamo back together and getting back into working order. Perhaps there was a repair facility hidden somewhere among the sparkling grandeur of the palace. Maker, his legs ached and were creaking like an old water pump, yet still he continued on without further hesitation.

Finally, after searching around for a few minutes, he found what he had been looking for. A repair bay, an automated one at that. Well that just made his life a hell of a lot easier in that very moment. Now all he had to do what carefully haul Dynamo’s broken form onto the surface of the slab at the center of the room, move back, turn on the machine and allow it to do the rest for him.

” You’ll be back in order soon. ” He sighed watching from a distance.
